Buying vintage, honestly

A fifty-year-old watch is not a new watch. Cases carry marks, acrylic crystals carry swirls, and lume from the seventies no longer glows. We describe every piece against that reality rather than against a catalogue photo, and we would rather lose a sale than oversell a dial.

Every movement here goes across the bench before listing: checked, cleaned where it needs it, and run to confirm it keeps time.

What to check before you buy

Case size. Most vintage sits between 33mm and 37mm. If you normally wear 40mm, a 34mm HMT will read as dressy rather than small — check the size in the listing first.

Lug width. It decides which straps fit. We list it wherever we have it, and the strap collection is cut to vintage widths.

Movement type. Hand-wound needs winding daily. Automatic needs wearing. Quartz needs a battery every couple of years. None of them is better — they just ask for different habits.
